DCEHL Week Three Report
September 29, 2020
Posted by: David Beaudoin

While the eyes of the hockey world were glued to their televisions for game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals between the Dallas Stars and the Tampa Bay Lightning, the boys and girls of the DCEHL hit the ice and did what they do best; play some damn good hockey! Most of the games were close, several heroes emerged, and one game even saw an unlikely assist from a league rival.

So without further adieu, here’s what happened on Monday, September 28th in the DCEHL!

Red Army vs Grey Squirrels - Game Summary

Monday night's action kicked off with a close contest between the Red Army (1-2-0-0) and the Grey Squirrels (2-1-0-0). The game started off slow, with neither team able to put any goals on the board before the 1st period buzzer went off. Grey would finally open the scoring at the top of the 2nd period courtesy of Forward Brad Bickford. The lead wouldn’t last though, as Red's Forward Mike Sinkewich would score the equalizer with just over two minutes left on the clock. Both teams would fight to the finish, but with one second left on the clock in the 3rd, Grey's Brad Bickford scored his second of the night propelling the Grey Squirrels to a 2-1 victory.

Dover Gold vs PowerPro Electric - Game Summary

The next game of the night saw a back-and-forth affair between PowerPro Electric (2-1-0-0) and Dover Gold (0-1-0-2). Gold would break the ice mid-way through the 1st period when Gold rookie Ryan Baer and Gold veteran Chris Hamer would connect for the team's first of the game. As the game entered its middle frame, PowerPro would find the back of the net twice just over a minute apart to take a 2-1 lead; a lead they'd carry into the game's final period. But Gold wasn't ready to go quietly into the night and just over halfway through the 3rd, another Gold rookie, Kendra Dow, would break through the goalie's defenses to tie the game. The game would ultimately go to a shootout where PowerPro would come out on top and roll to a 3-2 shootout win.

Blue Roosters vs Black Knights - Game Summary

As the action continued, the third contest of the evening was a tight battle between the Blue Roosters (2-0-1-0) and the Black Knights (1-2-0-0). Blue and Black would both put some goals on the board during the first period, but Blue would have one more goal than Black and go into the 2nd with the lead. Blue would eventually extend their lead off a power play goal from Scott MacDonald. Black would answer back with goals from Forwards Tony Martuscello and Tobin Farwell, sending the game into the 3rd dead even. The hockey gods can only smile upon one team though, and it would be Blue, whose Captain Jeffery Lapak would bang a goal in with 22 seconds left, sealing the 4-3 victory for the Roosters.

NHMS vs Purple Pain - Game Summary

Closing out the night's action would be a game between the Purple Pain (2-0-1-0) and NHMS (1-2-0-0), with NHMS getting a hand between the pipes from Black Knight goalie, Ed Gontarz. Purple would find themselves in the drivers' seat early in the game, scoring two goals 13 seconds apart early in the 1st. White would get their scoring going late in the 2nd period with Forward Rich Grace scoring his first of the season with an assist from D-man Rob Horton, but Purple would find the back of the net again with an insurance goal from Forward Benedict Christen that same period. Purple would carry their lead to the final buzzer, and win the game 3-1.

The season rolls on with week four's games being played on Monday, October 5th starting at 6:30pm!
